SOUTH BRUNSWICK – Three incumbents who were elected to the South Brunswick Board of Education will be joined by one newcomer.
Patrick Del Piano, Deven M. Patel and Arthur Robinson received 4,111, 4,118 and 4,833 votes, respectively, according to election results provided by Middlesex County. They edged out Mahendra S. Patel, who received 1,974 votes, and Deep Shukla, who garnered 2,885 votes. They will each serve three-year terms.
“I would like to thank the South Brunswick community for their support and trust in me. I will continue to work hard for children, teachers, parents and the entire community. [I am] looking forward to serving for three more years. Thanks again for re-electing me for your school board member,” Patel said.
“I would like to thank the residents of South Brunswick for allowing me the privilege and honor to serve as an incumbent board member for the next three years,” Robinson said. “Throughout my campaign, I have continued to focus on my board’s efforts to prioritize the ‘whole student’ concept for college or attending a trade school for our graduates. One facet of my plan is to advocate that our new governor and his education commissioner rethink the pathways to graduation and not just focus on one path and the appeals process post -2020. Most importantly, I will continue to strongly support the needs of our special education students and the socially and economically disadvantage students to succeed.”
For the two-year unexpired term, Joyce Mehta was voted onto the board on Nov. 7 with 4,326 votes, compared to Anil Patel’s 2,223 votes.
“Congratulations to all the winning candidates,” Anil Patel said. “I’d also like to thank the South Brunswick community for supporting me. Winning and losing is part of the election process. I will continue to work for the community. All candidates showed a true spirit of community service and stayed positive in our campaign – that shows South Brunswick is a model community in spite of current political discourse in the country.”
Del Piano, Mahendra Patel, Shukla and Mehta could not be reached for further comment.
The school board will reorganize at a meeting in January.
