Edison man charged with DWI in death of North Brunswick man

EDISON — A 25-year-old Edison man has been charged with driving while intoxicated and causing the death of a North Brunswick man.

Vishwalee Gummakonda, 25, was charged with the second degree crime of death by auto and driving while intoxicated on Nov. 15, according to a joint statement released by Middlesex County Prosecutor Andrew C. Carey and Police Chief Thomas Bryan of the Edison Police Department.

Matthew Muklewicz, 31, of North Brunswick, was pronounced dead at the scene just past midnight on Nov. 15 after his 2015 Honda Shadow motorcycle was reportedly struck by Gummakonda’s vehicle while stopped at a traffic light at the corner of Route 1 and Plainfield Avenue, according to officials.

Gummakonda, who was driving a 2017 Hyundai Santa Fa Wagon, was traveling on Route 1 south and allegedly rear-ended the stopped motorcycle, police said.
