NORTH BRUNSWICK – Two young volunteers have been honored for their efforts at school and in the community.
Jesse Gibbons and Carragh McCarthy have been selected as the Scholar/Athlete/Artist award recipients for November. The North Brunswick Township Council and the Department of Parks, Recreation and Community Services honored the two during the council meeting on Nov. 20.
Jesse is a senior on the Honor Roll at North Brunswick Township High School.
He has been a member of the varsity swim team as well as the baseball team for four years. He also swims for the Xcel Swimming Program in Princeton. His most recent accomplishment is placing second in the 19-and-under category in the Jersey City Marathon.
Jesse volunteers for Care to Walk/Run event and was the captain and team player for The Special Bowl, an event for Friends with Disabilities. He is a Hoby recipient, which is the Hugh O’Brien Youth Leadership Program that inspires to develop the global community of youth and volunteers to a life dedicated to leadership, service and innovation, according to the proclamation read in his honor. He attended the GYLS (Anthony Robbins Global Youth Leadership) and UPW (Unleash the Power Within) programs which also encourage leadership in today’s youth.
Carragh is in the second grade at Judd Elementary School.
She enjoys taking part in school Theater Week and fundraising efforts to support her school, according to the proclamation read in her honor.
She has been a member of the North Brunswick Mat Raiders Wrestling Team since 2016. She is also a gymnast at Middlesex Gymnastics Academy in East Brunswick since the age of four and attends weekly CCD classes at Our Lady of Peace Church.
Carragh recently had one of her pictures included in the art exhibit at North Brunswick Township High School.
