HOLMDEL The Township Committee introduced a $100,000 bond ordinance that will help fund the ongoing construction of the public library.
The public library’s new facility is still under construction, but according to Borough Clerk Maureen Doloughty, the site could be finished by the end of this month at the Bell Works facility, which is located at 101 Crawfords Corner Road.
The committee approved on the first reading for the $100,000 bond ordinance on Nov. 28 during its meeting.
On Feb. 28, the committee had approved and adopted a $2 million bond ordinance to fund improvements to the public library, according to the committee agenda.
According to Doloughty, if the $100,000 bond ordinance is adopted, the bond amount total will be $2.1 million. The scheduled meeting date is Dec. 12 for the second reading to approve the bond ordinance.
The funding from the bond ordinance would be used to pay for the construction costs for the library, according to Chief Financial Officer Jeanette Larrison.
“We are leasing the facility with Somerset Development and the construction costs were a little bit more than we had anticipated, so we have an additional $100,000 bond ordinance because the total construction cost amount is unknown. However, once we have the exact total cost, we can cancel the unused bond balance,” Larrison said.
In a related matter, the committee passed a resolution to authorize a change order in the amount of $6,271 for the library construction project at Bell Works, according to the committee agenda.
It was determined by the township’s architect department that the relocation of an existing exposed conduit, which was within the new suspended ceiling and additional door access hardware, was necessary to complete this project, according to the committee agenda.
This change order increased the project by $6,271, which resulted in the total project cost to come out at $1,830,748, according to the committee agenda. The township had already awarded a contract to McCauley Construction in the amount of $1,779,000.
