KEYPORT The Borough Council approved a resolution to authorize promotions, with salary changes, in the Keyport Police Department.
Sgt. Shannon Torres and Sgt. Michael Ferm were promoted to the position of lieutenant with a salary of $121,498.85. Detective Joseph Rendina and Patrolman Stephen Wheeler Jr. were promoted to the position of sergeant with a salary of $115,202.26. Patrolman Robert McCartin was promoted to the position of detective with a salary of $105,532.80, according to the council agenda.
The officers’ promotion date was effective on Nov. 22 and the salary changes will be effective on January 1, 2018, according to the council agenda.
Officer Gregory Johnson and Officer Adriano Yanez were swore in by Council President Matthew Goode, on Nov. 21, during the council’s semi-monthly meeting, at the municipal building.
Johnson was promoted to sergeant and is currently receiving the 2017 salary for the position which was effective Nov. 22. He will receive the 2018 salary of $105,532.80 beginning January 1, 2018, according to Borough Clerk Valerie Heilweil.
Yanez is a new hire who came from the Middlesex County Sheriff’s Office and his salary is $50,297.
The council also approved a resolution authorizing the provisional promotion of Captain Mark Hafner to the position of provisional police chief, effective January 1, 2018, with a annual salary of $138,999.85, according to the council agenda.
The police department’s current Chief of Police George Casaletto is going to retire as chief of police effective Dec. 31, according to Borough Clerk Valerie Heilweil.
Since the current chief of police is retiring, his position is going to be filled provisionally until the borough receives certification from the New Jersey Civil Service Commission with candidates who are qualified and then the borough will select from those candidates to fill the position, according to Gallo.
