Girls’ Basketball
Allentown High School continue its undefeated campaign after defeating Harry S. Truman High School of Levittown, Pennsylvania, 71-49, on Dec. 27.
Senior Ryan Weise led the Redbirds’ effort in Allentown with 21 points. Junior Lauren Coiante added 11 points, and senior Marin Hartshorn contributed an additional 10 points.
In reaching 4-0 on the season, Allentown has also defeated Nottingham High School, 54-30, on Dec. 15; West Windsor-Plainsboro High School South, 59-25, on Dec. 19; and Lawrence High School, 52-19, on Dec. 21. The Redbirds are averaging 59 points per game while holding their opponents to only 31 points a contest.
Weise is averaging 15.8 points per game this season, while Coiante has averaged eight points per game so far.
Allentown looked to extend its winning streak on Dec. 29 when it visited Trenton Catholic High School. The Redbirds will be the host to Robbinsville High School on Jan 5 at 5:15 p.m.
Boys’ Basketball
The Redbirds fell to West Catholic Preparatory High School of Philadelphia, 65-49, on Dec. 27 in Allentown.
Sophomore RJ Weise led the Redbirds with 15 points, and senior Yeshua Powe added 13 points in the loss. Senior Robert Hynes had nine points.
Weise is averaging 13.5 points per game this season, while Powe has posted 11.8 points per contest. Hynes is averaging 7.8 points per game.
Allentown’s record dropped to 2-2 after the loss. The Redbirds had won their previous two contests against West Windsor-Plainsboro South, 42-40, on Dec. 19 and Lawrence, 48-45, on Dec. 21. They lost their season opener, 97-47, to Nottingham on Dec. 15.
The Redbirds were scheduled to be home to Hightstown High School on Jan. 3 before hitting the road to face Robbinsville on Jan. 5.
Wrestling
Allentown’s wrestling team picked up two victories at a quad meet on Dec. 22 at Bordentown Regional High School.
The Redbirds fell to the host, Bordentown Regional, 36-34, but secured victories over Burlington County Institute of Technology Westampton Campus, 75-6, and Pemberton Township High School, 64-12.
Joseph Lamparelli (120 pounds), Drew Romein (145), Paskal Miga (160), Liam McDermott (170), John Kuchar (182) and Parker Flanagan (285) earned pins in their matches against Westampton Tech. Against Pemberton, Nicholas Golden (132), Matt Paglia (138), Anthony Heinz (152) and Flanagan had pins.
Allentown improved to 6-2 on the year. The Redbirds were scheduled to visit Lawrence High School on Jan. 3
