ALLENTOWN – Wil Borkowski was saluted by the Allentown Borough Council during his final meeting as a member of the governing body on Dec. 26.
Councilman Rob Schmitt, Councilwoman Angela Anthony, Councilman Thomas Fritts, Councilman Rob Strovinsky and Councilwoman Johnna Stinemire thanked Borkowski for his work on behalf of the community and presented him with a plaque recognizing his service.
Borkowski served on the council from Jan. 1, 2015 through Dec. 31, 2017. He was selected by his fellow members of the governing body to serve as council president during all three years of his term.
Schmitt said Borkowski’s involvement in the community began when he moved to Allentown and encompassed several areas of service.
As a councilman, Schmitt said, Borkowski “led the charge for a new waste water treatment plant and found funding for it, and he shepherded our streetscape improvements. He is a leader who leads by example, a dedicated public servant. He led by science and reason.”
Following Schmitt’s comments, Borkowski said one of his goals as a councilman was to make small town living affordable. He thanked Allentown’s employees for their efforts in keeping the borough running efficiently and he thanked residents for their support during his council term.
Borkowski joined the council in January 2015 after winning election in November 2014. Later in 2015 he ran for mayor, losing to Greg Westfall, but retaining his seat on the governing body. Borkowski ran for a second council term in 2017, but was not re-elected. On Nov. 7, Anthony was re-elected and John Elder was elected to his first term on the council.
