The Metuchen Municipal Alliance will sponsor a community education event that will explain about how to care for someone at risk for a heroin or opioid overdose.
The event will be held at 7 p.m. on Jan. 11 at the Metuchen Senior Center, 15 Center St., and is limited to the first 30 people who arrive (first-come, first-served).
Participants will receive free training about addiction and free Narcan Nasal Spray Kits. Training is open to anyone who is at risk or knows someone who is at risk for a heroin or opioid overdose.
Education will be provided on how to administer Narcan (Nalaxone) to reverse a heroin or opioid overdose. The drug is used in order to buy enough time to get someone to an emergency room for further treatment, including rehabilitation services.
The Opioid Overdose Prevention Project is made possible by funding received from the New Jersey Governor’s Council on Alcoholism and Drug Abuse (GCADA), the New Jersey Department of Human Services, Division of Mental Health and Addiction Services, the Middlesex County Office of Human Services, and JSAS HealthCare, Inc.
