The Edison Police Department will sponsor its popular Civilian Police Academy starting Jan. 30 and running on consecutive Tuesdays, from 7:30–9:30 p.m., through March 20.
The Civilian Police Academy is free and will be held at the Edison Municipal Complex and is open to township residents, 18 or older, who register before Jan. 12. Class size is limited to the first 35 residents who register.
Topics covered during the Civilian Police Academy will include the functions of the police department’s patrol bureau; the detective bureau, crime scene unit, and juvenile aid bureaus; the special operations group, the S.W.A.T. team, the auxiliary police and emergency management.
There will also be discussions about domestic violence, crime prevention, home security and personal safety, and firearms safety.
