FREEHOLD – As December was ending, municipal officials were thinking about Independence Day 2018 and taking action to ensure a fireworks display will once again be part of Freehold Borough’s celebration of the nation’s independence.
On Dec. 18, Borough Council members passed a resolution authorizing a license agreement with D&M Fireworks to supply a fireworks display at the town’s annual Independence Day event.
The celebration is open to residents of all communities and will be held at Freehold Raceway, Park Avenue, on July 3 (rain date, July 8).
D&M Fireworks’ budget for the fireworks display will be $13,500, according to a quote submitted by the vendor to the borough. The company will supply the fireworks and trained operators who will set up and ignite the aerial show.
“Material [for the fireworks] includes salutes, mines, peonys, chrysanthemums, tiger tails, crossettes, coconuts, scatters, dahlias, crowns, willows and comets, plus a wide variety of special and fancy grade floral pattern shells,” David Albitz and Skip Markacs of D&M Fireworks wrote in their quote. “We purchase only the highest quality material for our displays.
“Our approach has always been to use only the highest quality material available since no choreography or firing equipment can make up for poor color, inconsistent altitude, poor symmetry, safety issues and other problems associated with low-priced material,” they wrote. “We use no low price or low quality material in any display we perform.”
