Monroe expands local cable programming to Fios customers

MONROE – Verizon Fios customers now have access to Monroe’s lineup of local cable programming.

Township officials and school administrators have worked jointly over the span of nearly a year to bring Fios subscribers local televised programming, which has long been available to Monroe’s Comcast customers on Channel 28, according to information provided by the township.

“In cooperation with both cable providers, we required extensive equipment installation and technical adjustments in order to facilitate this change,” Monroe Mayor Gerald W. Tamburro said in the statement. “This is yet another outlet, in addition to our social media, website and township newspaper, that residents can tap into to stay informed on the day-to-day happenings in our community.”

Depending on the day of the week, Monroe’s Verizon customers will find alternating school and municipal content on channels 32 and 40.

The municipal channel broadcasts community events, council and other informational meetings, The Mayor Tamburro Show, historical documentaries, as well as several Middlesex County programs.

The school’s coverage includes Board of Education meetings, special presentations and a number of district-related functions and events.

“This makes us whole, as we stream our programs through both of the township’s primary cable providers,” Monroe Township Council President Steve Dalina said in the statement. “With the growing viewership comes more informed citizens, which we both welcome and encourage here in the Township of Monroe.”
