FREEHOLD TOWNSHIP – Members of the Freehold Township K-8 School District Board of Education have voted to keep the individuals who were serving as president and vice president of the panel at the end of 2017 in place for 2018.
The board held its annual reorganization meeting on Jan. 2 and the four winning candidates from the Nov. 7 election – incumbents Michael Amoroso, Michelle Lambert and Mary Cozzolino, and newcomer Michael Matthews – were sworn in to begin serving their terms.
The board oversees the operation of Freehold Township’s early learning center, and its elementary and middle schools.
Amoroso, who joined the board in 2011, Lambert, who joined the board in 2010, and Matthews were elected to three-year terms. Cozzolino, who was appointed to the board in 2017 to fill a vacant seat, was elected to a one-year term.
After all members were seated, the board held elections for the positions of president and vice president.
Jason Levy, who began serving as president midway through 2017, was elected to continue serving as president. He joined the board in 2010.
Lambert, who began serving as vice president midway through 2017, was elected to continue serving as vice president.
In 2017, Levy was initially elected to serve as vice president for the year. He was named president during the summer after Christopher Marion, the board’s then-president, resigned to accept a position in Monmouth County government that precluded him from serving in the elected position.
After Levy became president, Lambert was named to succeed Levy as vice president.
At the reorganization meeting, the board also approved the appointment of Business Administrator Robert DeVita as board secretary, safety and health designee, custodian of records, and public agency compliance officer for 2018.
Board members approved the appointment of Assistant Superintendent of Schools Neil Dickstein as the district’s school safety specialist and Ilene Tepper as assistant board secretary for 2018.
