EDISON — A 35-year-old township man was charged with allegedly stealing multiple empty metal beer kegs from two popular establishments in the township on two occasions last year.
The Edison Police Department Burglary Unit charged Morad Barakat on Jan. 16 at the Speedway Gas Station on Woodbridge Avenue with two counts of burglary and theft, according to Police Lt. Robert Dudash.
The first burglary occurred on Oct. 26, 2017, at the Quaker Steak and Lube on Route 1, and the second burglary occurred on Dec. 29 at the Zinburger on Route 1.
In both burglaries, multiple empty metal beer kegs were reportedly stolen after normal business hours with a total value of approximately $500, police said.
Police Chief Thomas Bryan commended the department’s burglary unit.
“The dedicated detectives within this unit work tirelessly to solve both commercial and residential burglaries throughout our community,” he said.
Barakat was processed and released on Jan. 16. He was turned over to the Flemington Police Department on active warrants.
