Six of William Shakespeare’s most iconic heroines will share the stage as the Performing Arts Center at Brookdale Community College presents “When Shakespeare’s Ladies Meet,” running from Feb. 9-11 and Feb. 16-18 on the college’s Lincroft campus, 765 Newman Springs Road (Route 520).
The light-hearted comedy, authored by Charles George, imagines an encounter between Shakespeare heroines Juliet, Ophelia, Cleopatra, Portia, Katharine and Desdemona, who come together to discuss Juliet’s blossoming love for Romeo, according to a press release.
Throughout the one-act play, each woman offers young Juliet her own advice on the best approach to a new romance.
“Featuring some of the most memorable characters in all of Shakespeare, this witty, engaging play offers audiences a unique take on life, love and the importance of following one’s heart,” said director John Bukovec, a Brookdale theater professor.
The cast features Amani Alnababteh, of East Brunswick, as Portia; Amanda Canny, of Middletown, as Katharine; Tess Maxwell, of Middletown, as Ophelia; Samantha McClelland, of Freehold, as Desdemona; Sophia Parola, of Manalapan, as Cleopatra; and Charlee Reiff, of Ocean Township, as Juliet.
Performances will be held at 8 p.m. Feb. 9, 10, 16 and 17. Sunday matinees will be offered on Feb. 11 and Feb. 18 at 2 p.m. Tickets are $10 for the general public and $8 for seniors, Brookdale alumni and residents age 17 and under. Current Brookdale students can attend for $5.
