JACKSON – This month at Jackson Liberty High School, “Grease” is the word.
The high school’s drama club, the AtLib Players, will perform the musical “Grease” on Feb. 22 at 6:30 p.m., Feb. 23 at 7 p.m. and Feb. 24 at 1:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.
“This is such a fun show with a ton of energy and attitude,” said Nicole Mathias, the play’s director. “The students have worked so hard on it and we hope the Jackson community will come out to see how much fun our Pink Ladies and T-Birds are having on stage.”
Mathias said the longevity and popularity of the “Grease” movie and musical makes it a familiar product for so many, but that there is nothing like seeing it live.
“No matter how familiar it may seem to many of us, seeing them perform it live on stage makes it a whole new experience,” she said. “Because of the dedication of the cast and crew, this show is full of life.”
Tickets are $14 for students and seniors, and $18 for adults. Tickets can be purchased in person on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 4-6 p.m. and on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to noon at the high school auditorium (enter through door 39). Tickets may be reserved by sending an email with contact information and ticket orders to [email protected]. If tickets are still available, they will also be sold at the door.
The show centers on the 1950s and the students of Rydell High School as they make their way through their senior year.
Characters Sandy (Danielle DeMarzo) and Danny (Nicolas Mathias) try to reconnect after summer romance and are both foiled and supported by classmates Rizzo (Lauren Robinson), Kenickie (Jack Hemhauser), Patty Simcox (Emma Duffy), Eugene (Jimmy Wendolek), Roger (Jonah Resnick), Jan (Emily Bonino), Doody (Luke Mannikus) and Frenchie (Skylar Trostinsky), according to a press release.
“This show represents months of work and dedication by actors, musicians, set designers, stage crew, staff and students who give their heart with every production,” Mathias said. “I could not be more proud of our school.”
