NORTH BRUNSWICK – A former assistant fire chief for North Brunswick Volunteer Fire Co. No. 3 has passed away.
Salvatore “Sam” Georgianna, Jr. died on Feb. 17 at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick. He was 58.
Georgianna was a lifelong North Brunswick resident. He was an electrician with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 456 in New Brunswick for 36 years before retiring in 2015, according to a statement prepared by Selover Funeral Home.
Georgianna was a 39-year member, trustee and former assistant chief of North Brunswick Volunteer Fire Co. No. 3. He was treasurer of the North Brunswick Fire Department and was a life member of the New Jersey Volunteer Fire Chief’s Association.
“Sam was a very valued member of the firehouse,” Fire Co. 3 President Phil Sinicropi said. “He was really loved by all. He was very kind and generous to all our members. He was extremely skilled and knowledgeable in all firefighting aspects.”
Sinicropi said 150 area firefighters attended Georgianna’s memorial and funeral services.
“It’s going to take us a while to recover from his loss,” he said.
Councilman Carlo Socio called for a moment of silence during the Feb. 19 Township Council meeting.
“We would like to, as a mayor and council in the town, thank him for his service and send our condolences to his family,” he said.
In Georgianna’s memory, contributions can be made to North Brunswick Volunteer Fire Co. No. 3. Arrangements were under the direction of Selover Funeral Home, North Brunswick.
