Freehold Township approves shared services agreements

FREEHOLD TOWNSHIP – The Township Committee has authorized agreements with neighboring municipalities for shared services.

On Feb. 13, committee members passed a resolution renewing a shared services agreement with Marlboro for municipal court administration services. Freehold Township will continue to provide the services on an as-needed basis to Marlboro. The initial agreement was authorized in April 2017 and will remain in place.

Committee members also passed a resolution authorizing the execution of an updated shared services agreement with Freehold Borough for code enforcement, building inspection and plan review services, which is ongoing.

In other business, officials awarded a $17,664 contract to Most Dependable Fountains Inc. for the furnishing and delivery of water fountains for Michael J. Tighe Park, Georgia Road.

Finally, the committee appointed Christopher Brunner as a Class II special officer for 2018, as recommended by Police Chief Ernest Schriefer.

According to the resolution, the duties of appointed special officers are limited and confined to serving on assignment in the Freehold Township K-8 School District; issuing summonses to vehicles parked in fire zones, handicap parking spaces and no parking zones; serving on assignment in the municipal courtroom; providing traffic control in special details; as communication operators; and completing special duties assigned by the police chief.

Class II special officers are armed while they are on duty, but are not permitted to carry handguns while they are off duty, and they are not members of the police force, according to the resolution.
