HILLSBOROUGH: Human pawns

To the editor:

The deadline set by President Donald Trump to resolve the issue of the DACA Americans has come and gone and they remain in limbo. Part of the problem is his repeated reference to them as “illegal immigrants.” This mischaracterization is repeated by him constantly as if it is true.

Their parents may have been illegal immigrants, but the DACA children are Americans by experience and by immense effort. They have had an American education, with some going as far as receiving their doctorates. Some are serving in the American Armed Forces. Many have contributed as farm or construction workers so sorely needed in this country.

President Trump continues to use these human beings as bargaining chips. A number of congressional attempts to resolve this human crisis have been rejected by this nonspiritual president.

Where is the outrage at this most un-American travesty?
