METUCHEN — The Metuchen Police Department will soon have a dedicated traffic safety officer.
“We have been asking for a traffic safety officer for a bit now,” Mayor Jonathan Busch said.
Police Cpl. Rob Ring “is an impressive member of our force with a background and education in traffic enforcement,” Busch said.
Police Chief David Irizarry said Kenny Bauer held the position of traffic safety officer prior to his promotion to corporal on Oct. 2.
“This is not a new position,” Irizarry said. “It was just vacant for a while during a manpower shortage due to injuries.”
Borough Council President Linda Koskoski said the hiring of a new police officer has allowed the police department to dedicate an officer to traffic safety. On Feb. 20, council members approved the hiring of Christopher John Lewandowski to the Metuchen Police Department. He was sworn in at a council meeting on March 5.
