NORTH BRUNSWICK – North Brunswick Township High School Raider Robotix Team 24 earned a second Winner’s blue banner for the second year in a row at the For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology Mid-Atlantic Regional District Montgomery District Event.
The showing at Montgomery High School on March 24-25 followed Team 25’s victory at the Mid-Atlantic Regional Mount Olive District Event that was held March 10 and 11, according to information provided by the team. At the Mount Olive competition, Raider Robotix was also recognized with the Excellence in Engineering Award sponsored by Delphi.
During the Montgomery competition, 39 FIRST Robotic Competition teams from New Jersey and Pennsylvania competed in the 2018 game, FIRST POWER UPSM, which resembles a vintage arcade video game.
Raider Robotix was defeated twice during 12 qualification matches, and earned their rank as the third-seeded team at the competition, according to the statement. The first ranked team, FRC Team 225 TechFire from York, Pennsylvania, invited the Raides and the 26th ranked team, FRC Team 5992 Pirates from Seton Hall Preparatory School in West Orange, to form Alliance 1 to play against seven other three-team alliances in the elimination tournament bracket.
The Alliance 1 was undefeated through the quarterfinal and semifinals matches. In the final rounds, Alliance 1 faced Alliance 3 comprised of FRC Teams 341 Miss Daisy of Ambler, Pennsylvania, 222 Tigertrons of Tunkhannock High School in Tunkhannock, Pennsylvania, and 4653 Ironmen Robotics of Don Bosco Prep High School in Ramsey in two rounds to emerge undefeated and the winning alliance at the Montgomery event, according to the statement.
Next, the Raider Robotix team will travel to Pennsylvania to compete at the FIRST Mid-Atlantic Hatboro-Horsham District Event to be held March 30 and 31 at HatboroHorsham Senior High School in Horsham, Pennsylvania. FIRST Robotics Competitions are free to the public. Doors generally open around 9 a.m.
Qualifying robotics teams from the Mid-Atlantic district will be invited to compete at the FIRST Mid-Atlantic District Championship at Lehigh University on April 6 and 7. Qualified teams from the District Championship will be invited to compete at the FIRST World Championship to be held in Detroit on April 26–28.
