Brookdale Community College will honor six outstanding local residents and more than 2,000 local students during the college’s 48th annual commencement ceremony, May 10 on the Lincroft campus.
A total of 1,985 students are expected to graduate from Brookdale this year, with diplomas handed out during a 10 a.m. and a 3 p.m. ceremony at the Robert J. Collins Arena. The graduating class will earn more than 2,000 total degrees and includes 42 students with a perfect 4.0 grade point average, according to a press release.
For the first time, Brookdale’s graduating class will also include local high school seniors who are earning associate degrees through the college’s Early College High School partnerships. Nineteen Neptune High School seniors and nine St. John Vianney High School students are expected to receive Brookdale associate degrees, weeks before they graduate from high school, according to the press release.
Honorary degrees will be presented to Robert and Joan Rechnitz, founders of the nonprofit Two River Theater Company in Red Bank, restaurateur and community activist Marilyn Schlossbach, and Carol Stillwell, president and CEO of Stillwell Hansen Inc.
Distinguished alumni awards will be presented to Collen Lyons, chief information officer for Lenox Hill Hospital, New York City, and Doris Hudak, trustee emeritus for the Brookdale Alumni Association.
Select graduates will be presented with the college’s 2017-18 Outstanding Student Award.
Tickets are required to attend the ceremony. Those without tickets can watch a live simulcast in Brookdale’s Warner Student Life Center, with parking available in lots 6 and 7. For more information, visit www.brookdalecc.edu or call the Office of Student Life and Activities at 732-224-2788.
