Lawrence Township public school district students will have to wait until June 22 to begin their summer vacation as the result of six emergency school closings.
The last day of school would have been June 20, but the school year has been extended to make up for weather-related emergency closings, district administrators said. In New Jersey, students must attend school for 180 days.
Five emergency closing days were built into the 2017-18 school calendar, but school was closed for six non-consecutive days. Some make-up days were held in February, April and May, and now students will have to make up more time in June.
Lawrence High School seniors will graduate as planned on June 20. Project Graduation, which is the end-of-high-school celebration for graduating seniors, will be held after graduation on June 20.
All students are expected to attend classes on June 21 and June 22, although those school days will be half-days with early dismissal, district administrators said.
