FREEHOLD TOWNSHIP – The Township Committee has awarded a $178,532 contract to a firm that will make improvements to one of the community’s parks.
On April 10, committee members passed a resolution awarding the contract to Shore Top Construction Corp. for upgrades to Michael J. Tighe Park, Georgia Road, for this year.
Other bids were submitted by Gavan General Contracting ($210,596), Brennan Brothers Construction ($219,972), Halecon Inc. ($220,679), The G Meyer Group Inc. ($247,937), Diamond Construction ($301,174) and Mixalia Enterprises ($356,000).
Shore Top Construction was awarded the contract as the lowest bidder on the recommendation of the township engineer, according to the resolution.
Sue McGough, superintendent of parks and recreation, said the improvements will include repaving at the pavilion at Parking Lot 2, with mulch to be replaced by cement. She said a playground unit with climbing and sliding features will be installed.
Bleachers at the park, with the exception of fields 5, 6, 7 and 8, will be replaced. McGough said the bleachers are being replaced because they do not conform to township regulations.
The dimensions at Field 11 will be converted to a 50/70 ballfield. Existing picnic tables that can be moved from one location to another will be replaced with picnic tables that will be set in place, and trees will replace mulch, according to McGough.
Surfaces at several locations in the park will be repaired and repainted. McGough said water fountains will be added as part of the improvements.
