April is Parkinson Awareness Month, and residents at Brandywine Living at Princeton are beating the effects of Parkinson’s punch by punch.
During a study at the University of Indianapolis’ Krannert School of Physical Therapy, 88 volunteers with Parkinson’s disease participated in the Rock Steady boxing regimen, which includes lateral foot work, bag punching, stretching, resistance exercises and aerobic training. The study found that “boxers” demonstrated significantly better balance and walking function over time, according to information provided by Brandywine.
The Princeton location has partnered with Rock Steady Boxing of South Brunswick, located at Retro Fitness in Kingston, to introduce a new exercise program to residents fighting Parkinson’s. A demonstration class was held on April 26.
