Three students receive Edison Arts Society scholarships

EDISON — Three students were awarded with Edison Arts Society (EAS) Angelo Orlando scholarships.

Haley Sklans, Isabela Iverson and Jordan Paolello received the scholarships on May 2 at the EAS gallery on the third floor of the Edison Municipal Complex.

Sklans is a first-year art major at Middlesex County College (MCC). Associate Professor Susan Altman recommended her for the scholarship, according to a statement provided by the EAS.

Iverson, a John P. Stevens High School student, is an aspiring ballerina. In December, she performed as Clara in ” The Nutcracker,” according to Gloria S. Dittman, EAS president. This is the first year EAS  awarded a scholarship to a dance student who attends the Fabulous Feet Dance Studio in Metuchen.

Paolello, also a student at J.P. Stevens, is a photographer, typically capturing on film animals in their natural environment.

“The EAS’s goal is to enhance and enrich the quality of art we experience in our community through dance, visual art exhibits, poetry readings and music,” Dittman said in the statement.

This is the fourth consecutive year EAS has awarded scholarships to students in the Edison school system.
