Horror writers panel, poetry club offered at Old Bridge Library

The Old Bridge Library will sponsor the following literary events in June, appealing to a wide range of writers and readers:

  • The Garden State Speculative Writers Group will meet at 10:30 a.m. on June 2. This is a non-profit, multi-genre writers group catering to the needs of writers from all walks of life. The public is invited to join the meeting for writing workshops, critique groups and informative guest speakers.
  • The Poetry Club will meet at 11 a.m., June 7. Patrons are invited to join others who share a love of words and poetry. Meetings will be informal and consist of reading poems and biographies of a chosen poet, exploring different types of poetry, and sharing original work.
  • The Horror Writers Panel will meet at 7 p.m., June 8. Local area horror writers will preside over a panel discussion, followed by a question and answer session. Authors scheduled to appear include Somer Canon (“Killer Chronicles”), Frank Edler (“Death Gets a Book”), Matt Manochio (“The Highwayman”), Tim Meyer (“Sharkwater Beach”), Hunter Shea (“The Jersey Devil”), and Chuck Buda (“Summoner of Souls”).
  • A Bookenders discussion on “The Good Earth” will be held at 11 a.m. on June 11. The library’s monthly discussion group will examine Pearl S. Buck’s Pulitzer Prize winning novel about a Chinese peasant overcoming the forces of nature and the frailties of the human spirit to become a wealthy landowner.
  • A ladies book discussion on “The Little Red Chairs” will be held at 7 p.m. on June 18. The group will discuss Edna O’Brien’s most recent book that tells the story of Fidelma, who was disgraced when her village’s mysterious healer – who she loved and begged to help her conceive a child – is arrested as a war criminal.

In addition, as previously announced, the Friends of the Library will hold its annual Summer Book Sale at the library from June 1-4. It will offer thousands of adult, teen and children’s books, CDs, DVDs and audiobooks at prices generally ranging from 50 cents to $2.

The library is located at 1 Old Bridge Plaza at the corner of Route 516 and Cottrell Road in the Municipal Center.
