Monmouth Museum continues its fundraising initiative

The Monmouth Museum continues its effort to expand and enhance its facility.

The museum, located on the Brookdale Community College campus in Lincroft, has set forth a fundraising initiative, “The Next Big Idea,” which seeks to strengthen the organization’s mission and ensure its presence as a community staple.

Executive Director Avis Anderson said the staff behind the fundraising “challenge” will divide the accumulated funds that are raised to accommodate both the physical renovation of the museum and to expand its community outreach.

Anderson said the initiative began in 2017.

Dubbed as a “Museum of Ideas,” the Monmouth Museum presents changing art, history and science exhibitions to educate and entertain, while providing a destination for creative expression and life-long learning, according to the museum’s website.

Improvements to the facility will account for the largest portion of the total cost, Anderson said. Easier access to the museum’s entrance, elevator access to the second floor, an expanded Artisan Shop, and new lighting in the main gallery are among the improvements that will assist the Museum’s mission, according to a press release.

Restroom facilities will also be updated, and a multipurpose space will house future educational workshops.

Along with physical enhancements to the art facility, museum officials are seeking to expand their community outreach. The Museum has become known throughout the special education community as a location where youth are welcome.

Additional programming would allow the museum to reach a greater number of special needs individuals who could benefit from such exposure, according to the press release.

As improvements are made, museum staff will diversify. The addition of new talent and skills offered by professionals will create and facilitate new programs. Anderson said the three-year endeavor’s total cost roughly estimates $2 to $3 million dollars.

The fundraising effort will conclude in 2020.
