Scouts receive citizenship awards for projects in East Brunswick, North Brunswick

EAST BRUNSWICK – Patrick Tiongko and Evan Blake received Youth Good Citizenship Certificate Awards in recognition of their scouting accomplishments and attaining the rank of Eagle Scout.

A ceremony was held May 12 at the St. Bartholomew Parish Hall in East Brunswick for the members of Boy Scout Troop 109, along with Jersey Blue Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) chapter member and NJDAR Central District director Susan Luczu.

Patrick completed his service project by planning the layout, installation and repair of six benches at Bicentennial Park in East Brunswick. The project included plank and bolt replacement, as well as the chipping and flattening of the cement footings and metal bases for the benches, according to information provided by NJDAR.

Evan decided to memorialize World War 1 veterans buried in Elmwood Cemetery in North Brunswick. He led fellow scouts in researching the veterans, securing markers and flags to honor them, and creating a walking tour brochure for a lasting remembrance.

The new Eagle Scouts were presented with the DAR Youth Citizenship Award certificate and pin, representing dependability, service, leadership and patriotism. They were also presented with the NSDAR Challenge Coin, to remind them of their extraordinary accomplishment and the high ideals that scouting represents.
