SOUTH BRUNSWICK – Extra DWI enforcement by the South Brunswick Police Department resulted in four suspects being charged in one day.
South Brunswick police responded to Valero on Route 130 for a report of a verbal dispute occurring between two individuals in a blue pickup truck around 10:31 a.m. on May 30, according to reports.
Officers reportedly found a 2006 blue Ford F-150 driven by a 53-year-old with a 45-year-old passenger, both from Robbinsville, according to a statement provided by the South Brunswick Police Department. Officers Dale Hubner and Robert Marrese were reportedly given different names and false personal information from both individuals, according to reports.
Hubner indicated the male driver appeared to be intoxicated and reportedly failed several standardized field sobriety tests. The driver was charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol, hindering his own apprehension by providing false information, and numerous motor vehicle summonses.
The female passenger was charged with hindering her own apprehension for providing false information and two previous warrants for her arrest out of East Windsor.
Both were released pending their first court appearance.
Later that day at around 8:54 p.m., South Brunswick police responded to a motor vehicle crash on Major Road. Officers reportedly found a 2013 grey Ford Focus off the roadway after making impact with a nearby fire hydrant.
Officer Jamal Benbow reportedly located a 27-year-old male from North Brunswick and a 26-year-old male from the Monmouth Junction section of South Brunswick directly across the road from the crashed vehicle, according to reports.
Both individuals appeared to be intoxicated while speaking with Benbow, police said.
Police alleged the driver’s story about who was driving the vehicle changed, and as officers pieced together the travel route of the vehicle prior to the crash and located surveillance video, they discovered the Monmouth Junction resident was the driver, according to the statement.
The Monmouth Junction man was charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol while the North Brunswick man was charged with hindering his own apprehension for providing false information.
The vehicle involved in the crash was impounded and the Monmouth Junction resident was issued numerous motor vehicle summonses.
Both men were released pending their first court appearance.
