MARLBORO – Mayor Jonathan Hornik, with the approval and consent of the Township Council, adopted an amendment to Marlboro’s parking ordinance on May 17.
The ordinance now allows cars to be parked without a permit, free of charge, at township daily commuter parking lots Monday through Friday from 6:30 p.m. to 4:30 a.m., and throughout the weekend, according to a press release from the township.
“This ordinance ensures that those who purchase permits for commuting to work are ensured a place to park, while allowing access to residents who travel to the city during off-peak times,” Hornik said.
“Additionally, rather than using the pay-per-day lot at a daily fee, residents are now able to park their car free of charge at a lot closest to the bus stop for evening and weekend trips,” the mayor said.
The three parking lots requiring permits in Marlboro are the Union Hill Commuter Park and Ride at Route 9 and Union Hill Road; the parking lot at the Cambridge Square shopping center at Route 9 and Union Hill Road; and the parking spots specifically noted as “commuter spaces” at the Costco/Texas Road parking lot at Route 9 and Texas Road.
The parking lot at Union Hill Recreation Park on Union Hill Road remains at $3 per day at all times, according to the press release.
Township parking permits are required at the three commuter lots Monday through Friday from 4:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Prior to the amendment, the ordinance required a township parking permit to park at all township permitted commuter lots at all times. The ordinance was adopted May 17 and became effective June 7, according to the press release.
