Primaries uncontested in North, South Brunswick

Although it is only June, election season is right around the corner.

The race for Township Council in North Brunswick and the race for mayor in South Brunswick were both uncontested during the June 5 primary.

On Nov. 6, Democrat incumbents Carlo Socio and Dr. William Lopez will face Republican challengers George Callan and Thomas Lichwa. In the primary, Socio and Lopez received 1,246 and 1,263 votes, respectively, while Callan and Lichwa recorded 324 and 311 votes, respectively.

For the mayor’s race, current South Brunswick Mayor Charles Carley received 1,661 votes, while his upcoming challenger John O’Sullivan collected 473 votes.

No independent candidates for the general election filed by the June 5 deadline for either race.
