EDISON — The cause of a three-alarm fire at a split-level ranch on Phillips Road that left the home temporarily uninhabitable due to damage from flames, smoke and water is still under investigation, fire officials said.
Firefighters from Edison, Iselin, New Brunswick and South Plainfield responded to the 2:30 p.m. blaze on June 18 and arrived to find flames coming through its roof, according to fire Capt. Andy Toth.
Members of the household were not at home when the fire started. An Edison firefighter was treated for heat exhaustion at JFK Medical Center, Toth said.
