Sammy’s Hope receives ‘Foster Story of the Year’ recognition

SAYREVILLE – Sammy’s Hope Animal Welfare & Adoption Center was awarded “Foster Story of the Year” at this year’s World Dog Expo.

When she came to Sammy’s Hope, a pup named Jasmine was so frightened that she needed a helper dog to even come out of her kennel for a walk, and she flinched and cowered at the softest touch of a human hand, according to information provided by Sammy’s Hope. But after being fostered and having the care, enrichment, socialization and love of volunteers, Jasmine made such enormous progress that she was happily adopted at the end of 2017.

“We’re gratified by this award and we have to thank our wonderful volunteers, who give love and care 365 days, and who go the extra mile to foster dogs that need a home environment to come out of their shell,” Dave Gaier of Sammy’s Hope said in the statement.

The award was presented by Shorty Rossi, animal advocate and star of “Pit Boss” on Animal Planet, during the World Dog Expo at the Meadowlands June 9-10.

The Sayreville-based resuce was also a finalist for the award for “Rescue Organization of the Year” for shelters under 26 dogs.
