FREEHOLD TOWNSHIP – The Township Committee has authorized an increase in a contract to a firm that will make improvements to one of the community’s parks.
On June 25, committee members authorized a $15,170 increase in the original $178,532 contract that was awarded to Shore Top Construction in April for upgrades at Michael J. Tighe Park, Georgia Road, Freehold Township. The revised contract is $193,702.
According to the resolution, the change order was made on the recommendation of Township Engineer Timothy White due to additional pavement quantities resulting from unanticipated bike path repairs.
Sue McGough, superintendent of parks and recreation, said the improvements will also include repaving at the pavilion at Parking Lot 2, with mulch to be replaced by cement. She said a playground unit with climbing and sliding features will be installed.
Some bleachers at the park will be replaced because they do not conform to township regulations, McGough said.
And, the dimensions at Field 11 will be converted to a 50/70 ballfield. Existing picnic tables that can be moved from one location to another will be replaced with picnic tables that will be set in place, and trees will replace mulch. Surfaces at several locations will be repaired and repainted, and water fountains will be added, according to McGough.
In other business, the committee authorized two change orders to a $49,000 contract that was awarded to A.C. Shultes earlier this year for the rehabilitation of well No. 3 at the municipal water facility.
The first change order reflected a $750 decrease and the second change order reflected a $5,751 increase. The revised contract was $54,001. According to the resolution, the $750 reduction was authorized due to a four-hour initial pump test not being completed and the $5,751 increase was authorized for additional work required on the motor and pump assembly.
