JCC to hold various programs throughout summer

The Jewish Community Center of Middlesex County will offer the following programs at the center, 1775 Oak Tree Road, Edison:

  • Supervised Bridge for Intermediates with Gil Hollander, 7-9 p.m. Thursdays, July 12, 19 and 26 and Aug. 2, 9 and 16. Cost is $48 for members or $60 for non-members.
  • “Find Your Passion: Know Your Power” with Harvey Rich, 10:30 a.m. July 17. The interactive learning experience in a small group setting will promote group interaction, self-exploration and interpersonal connections. Free admission as space allows.
  • John Kenrick will discuss musician Marvin Hamlisch at 1:30 p.m. July 17. Cost is $8 for members or $11 for non-members.
  • Dr. David Martin will discuss Alexander Hamilton and Aaron Burr at 10:30 a.m. July 24. Cost is $8 for members or $11 for non-members.
  • Super Star Entertainment with Bobby Brescia will be July 24. Dessert at 1 p.m., performance at 1:30 p.m. Cost is $10 for members, $13 for non-members.
  • Robert Max, the last living American soldier to have survived Nazi forced labor, will speak at 10:30 a.m. July 31. Free as space allows, but pre-registration required.
  • Photographer Gary Gellman will present “New Jersey Hall of Fame: An Insider’s View” at 1:30 p.m. July 31. Cost is $8 for members or $11 for non-members.
  • Master storyteller and author Myron Sugarman will share details of the Jewish mob’s impact on the American Nazi Party in the 1930’s and the mob’s rule in supplying money and weapons to the underground armies during Israel’s fight for independence at 1:30 p.m. Aug. 7. Cost is $8 for members or $11 for non-members.
  • Storytelling with Elizabeth A. Pallitto, 10-11:30 a.m. Aug. 13. Using techniques drawn from creativity workshops, writers will unblock and unearth the stories and/or poetry that reside within. Free to members, $5 for guests.
  • Robert Galante will speak about technology and invention from the advent of the personal computer in the 1970s to the prevalence of the cell phone in the 21st century at 10:30 a.m. Aug. 14. Cost is $8 for members or $11 for non-members.
  • John Kenrick will discuss musician Jerry Herman at 1:30 p.m. Aug. 14. Cost is $8 for members or $11 for non-members.
  • An end of summer Hawaiian luau is scheduled for Aug. 21. Lunch at 11:30 a.m., entertainment from 12:45-2 p.m. Food, music with Bob James and a Hula dancer. Wear a grass skirt. Cost is $16 for members or $19 for non-members through Aug. 14, or $19 for members and $22 for non-members through Aug. 17. No registration accepted after Aug. 17.
  • Mara’s Creations Jewelry Showcase will be held from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. July 31 and from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Aug. 1. Mara Levine offers custom designs and a jewelry repair service, with the opportunity to restyle old jewelry pieces. All payments are cash or check. All proceeds will benefit Bright Beginnings Preschool and JCC Senior Adult Programs.
  • A JCC bereavement group with Rabbi Bryan Kinzbrunner will be held from 3-4 p.m. Wednesdays, Aug. 8 and 22, and Sept. 5. The cost is free.
