Juvenile charged with gun and drug offenses

 

EAST BRUNSWICK – East Brunswick Patrolman Matthew Kole stopped a vehicle for multiple violations at 10:56 p.m. on July 2 in the area of Route 18 and Tices Lane, and subsequently found a loaded weapon in the vehicle, according to the East Brunswick Police Department.

Upon speaking with the driver, identified by police as a 17-year-old male from Franklin Township who was allegedly unlicensed, Kole reportedly detected the odor of marijuana coming from inside the vehicle.

A subsequent investigation revealed the juvenile was allegedly in possession of a loaded 9mm handgun and a quantity of marijuana. Further investigation revealed the handgun had allegedly been reported stolen from Georgia, according to police.

The juvenile was charged with unlawful possession of a handgun, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, possession of a firearm while committing a controlled dangerous substance offense, possession of a high capacity magazine, possession of hollow point ammunition, possession of stolen property and possession of under 50 grams of marijuana, according to police.

The juvenile was initially placed in the Middlesex County Juvenile Detention Center.
