SAYREVILLE – A new vice principal for Sayreville War Memorial High School (SWMHS) has been hired by the Sayreville Board of Education.
On June 26, board members approved the employment of Katelyn Zurawski as a vice principal at the high school for the 2018-19 school year, effective July 1. Zurawski, who previously worked in the district as a substitute teacher and a mathematics teacher, will receive a salary of $102,535.
Zurawski succeeds Dale Rubino as a vice principal at the high school. Rubino resigned effective July 1 to become principal of Spotswood High School.
“I had an opportunity to participate in some of the interviews [for vice principal],” Superintendent of Schools Richard Labbe said. “I was incredibly impressed and inspired by what Katelyn had to share.
“She is someone [who] has superior cognitive abilities, she is very data-friendly, and more importantly, she knows how to analyze data and make very solid educational judgements with regard to that. That, by far, impressed me the most.
“Along with that, she is Sayreville through and through. She is someone [who] was born and raised here. She is also someone [who] since she was hired here as a substitute employee, has worked tirelessly to improve her potential as both an educator and a leader and someone [who] has really modeled to our employees how you can develop incredible leadership experiences and refine and polish your leadership skills through a variety of different activities within the school on a daily basis. We [administrators] are so proud to have the opportunity to recommend Katelyn to [the board],” Labbe said.
