Monmouth County Fair offers entertainment

The 2018 Monmouth County Fair will feature an entertainment lineup that will kick off with the Moroccan Sheepherders on July 25 at 8:15 p.m. and 9:30 p.m.

Loose and improvisational, this band takes classic covers and originals to another dimension with their primal, tribal vibe, according to a press release from the county.

The blues will come to life when the Chuck Lambert Band takes the stage on July 26 at 8:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. The band incorporates modern electric blues with more traditional forms.

On July 27, Musicians on a Mission, an organization of performers dedicated to raising awareness and funds for local charitable organizations, will perform at 8:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m.

The good times continue when the Jimmy Buffet and Friends Tribute Band covers the mayor of Margaritaville’s easy-going, infectious tunes on July 28 at 8:15 p.m. and 9:30 p.m.

The last day of the fair, July 29, brings the lively sounds of the ViRAGO Music Celtic Trio to the stage at noon and 1:45 p.m.

Other live entertainment acts at the fair include Bwana Jim’s Wildlife Show, Robinson’s Racing Pigs, Mutts Gone Nuts, Hell on Wheels and Wheel of Destiny.

Fair-goers can enjoy some old-fashioned fun during a pie-eating contest to be held during the last day of the fair, July 29. Wemrock Orchards, Freehold Township, donates the pies for the contest, according to the press release.

Children age 12 and under will compete at 1 p.m. and ages 13 and up will compete at 1:15 p.m. Those interested can register inside the Home and Garden tent starting at 11 a.m. Winners take home a trophy.

The fair is held at the East Freehold Showgrounds, Kozloski Road, Freehold Township, and offers family fun with 4-H exhibits, rides, entertainment, home and garden competitions, opening night fireworks, and more. Fair hours are 5-11 p.m. July 25-27; 3-11 p.m. July 28; and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. July 29. Admission is $8 per person; children 12 and under are free.
