EAST BRUNSWICK–Three men and one woman were charged with allegedly stealing items from the Walmart location in East Brunswick.
Patrols unit were dispatched to the store, located at 290 Route 18, at 4:08 a.m. July 26 for a report of a shoplifting incident where four suspects were allegedly fleeing with merchandise, according to a statement provided by the East Brunswick Police Department.
Ptl. Matthew Egnasko was told by store security that the group had fled the store and left the area in a blue Toyota Corolla with a New York registration, according to the police department.
A short time after, Ptl. Ryan Welch and Ptl. Christian Rodriguez observed a blue Toyota Camry allegedly matching that description pulling into the parking lot of Studio 6, located at 246 Route 18, and initiated a motor vehicle stop with the suspect vehicle, according to the statement.
While speaking with the occupants, the officers reportedly observed merchandise that still had store tags on them throughout the vehicle. Subsequent investigation revealed the merchandise had allegedly been stolen from Walmart, according to police.
The merchandise, which totaled $1,261.22, consisted of clothing, baby formula, cosmetics and a bicycle, according to the statement.
All four occupants were charged with shoplifting and possession of stolen property, according to police. Additionally, the woman was charged with allegedly being a fugitive from justice.
The three men were released on their own recognizance, according to the police department.
The woman was transported to the Middlesex County Adult Correction Center due to her warrant, according to police.
