Middletown Little League was defeated by the Mid Island Little League, the New York state champion, 5-2, on Wednesday, Aug. 8 during Mid-Atlantic Regional in Bristol, Connecticut. The loss pushed Middletown to the brink of elimination.
Mid Island took a 3-0 lead in the top of the third inning and never trailed. Middletown could only muster one run in the fourth and one more in the sixth.
The New Jersey state champion will need to win on Friday, Aug. 10, to keep its Little League World Series dream alive. Middletown will play the winner of Berlin Little League (Maryland) and Keystone Little League (Pennsylvania). Both of those teams have one loss and are meeting in an elimination game on Thursday, Aug. 9.
If Middletown wins on Friday, it will get another chance at Mid Island on Saturday in the championship round. The regional winner advances to the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pennsylvania.
