DOT starts $14.2M project to repave Route 18

EAST BRUNSWICK–Six miles of Route 18 will be resurfaced as part of the New Jersey Department of Transportation’s (DOT) pavement rehabilitation project.

The DOT’s contractor, Earle Asphalt, will handle the project, which will begin this summer, that begins at a point south of Texas Road in Marlboro and continues north to Rues Lanes through Old Bridge and East Brunswick, according to a statement from DOT.

The improvements include: roadway milling and paving; guide rail upgrades; curb replacement; installation of 41 ADA compliant ramps; construction of 1,000 linear feet of new and reconstructed sidewalks; and pedestrian safety systems, including four signalized intersections with pedestrian push buttons and countdown signals, according to the statement.

The DOT will construct Intelligent Transportation Systems facilities along Route 18, including Fiber Optic Cable and Conduit, Computerized Traffic Signal Systems, Dynamic Message Signs, and Camera Surveillance Systems, according to the statement.

The $14.2 million federally-funded project is expected to be completed in late fall 2019, according to the statement.

All travel lanes will be maintained along the two-lane section of Route 18 from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m., with temporary lane closures during the overnight hours for resurfacing work and traffic shifts as required, according to the statement.

The precise timing of the work is subject to change due to weather or other factors. Motorists are encouraged to visit 511nj.org for updates.
