The head of the Arts Council of Princeton has resigned and will leave her job at the end of August after less than two years at the helm of the arts organization.
Taneshia Nash Laird, the executive director since January 2017, declined on Aug. 15 to get into the reasoning behind her decision. She said she “really enjoyed my time here.”
Jim Levine, president of the council’s board, said on Aug. 15 that Nash Laird had “approached the executive committee of the board with her request to exit.” He declined to provide the timing for when that occurred.
“I don’t want to get into all of the discussions that took place around it,” he said. “It’s just that she came to us with that request.”
Levine said she will leave on Aug. 31.
Levine said he intends to step down from his role as board president to become the council’s interim executive director. He said the board would then search for a permanent replacement.
“We are going to do a quick organization analysis to make sure we’re looking for the right candidate and then start the search probably pretty soon,” he said.
The Arts Council of Princeton has about 10 employees and an annual budget of $1.5 million.
In November 2016, the organization announced Nash Laird had been hired to replace Jeff Nathanson, who had been in the job for 11 years. She was the third executive director in the history of an organization that started in 1967.
