NORTH BRUNSWICK – During the past few weeks, the North Brunswick Police Department has received reports of residential burglaries occurring overnight while the homes are occupied.
“In every instance, the suspect entered and remained in the home while the residents were sleeping. To date, we have had several of these incidents. At no time has a resident ever been awoken by the suspect. The male suspect has taken alcohol and car keys during his burglary, in most cases, then stealing the vehicle and leaving the area,” Police Capt. Brian Hoiberg said on Aug. 23.
All of the reported incidents have taken place in the area of Georges Road and Route 130.
“We believe the same suspect has also committed a few of these burglaries in neighboring towns as well. We have recovered evidence from the incidents reported and are following those leads. There may also be the possibility he has entered some homes without anyone realizing it and (the residents) not reporting it to us,” Hoiberg said.
Police are asking residents to lock all first floor windows during the overnight hours and to pay attention to all suspicious noises overnight.
“If you see any suspicious persons in or around your home, please report them to police. Do not attempt to confront the suspect,” Hoiberg said.
