Business awards nominees sought

Wanted: Nominations of East Windsor Township businesses that have contributed to the community.

That’s what East Windsor officials are seeking for the township’s 2018 Business Awards program. The deadline for nominations is Sept. 14.

The purpose of the annual program is to recognize local businesses that have made special efforts to improve or contribute to East Windsor, Mayor Janice S. Mironov said.

There are three categories – Business Beautification, Community Service and Community Enhancement, Mironov said.

“Business Beautification” is about creating an attractive appearance through landscaping, flowers and other enhancements to a business’s building and site.

“Community Service”  means providing for community contributions and service.

“Community Enhancement” is providing for any community value-added aspect related to the business, such as extraordinary job creation or an unusual or special product or opportunity.

Green and sustainable practices, green products, energy conservation, and the reduction of waste and energy consumption are encouraged and will be given more weight in considering the award winners.

“The Business Awards program was created to give well-deserved recognition to businesses which have made special efforts to enhance our community,” Mironov said. “It also highlights the importance our community places on local business owners and operators.”

Last year, the Beautification Award was presented to the East Windsor Village shopping center on Princeton-Hightstown Road. Kimco Realty, which owns the shopping center, was recognized for its ongoing enhancements to the grounds and landscaping.

The Americana Diner received the Community Service Award for its work with RISE, A Community Service Project, and for supporting the East Windsor Senior Center’s annual Thanksgiving luncheon.

The Community Enhancement Award was given to Aurobindo Pharma USA, which completed a 567,000-square-foot warehouse and manufacturing facility on Windsor Center Drive. The business has created hundreds of new jobs.

Nomination forms are available at the East Windsor municipal building, 16 Lanning Blvd., and online at www.east-windsor.nj.us. Forms may also be picked up at the Hickory Corner and Twin Rivers branches of the Mercer County Library System.
