The Old Bridge Library will continue its wide array of informative health and wellness sessions with Nutrition For Healthy Aging at 11 a.m. on Sept. 12 at the library, 1 Municipal Plaza at the corner of Route 516 and Cottrell Road, Old Bridge.
The session will provide tips about how to eat healthy, manage weight and prevent diseases. It will examine healthy eating for some common medical conditions such as high blood pressure, heart disease and diabetes; nutrition for older adults; and how to make healthy food choices at home and when eating out.
A support group for women with diabetes will be held at 10:30 a.m on Sept. 20. Sponsored by Diabetes Sisters, the group offers an inclusive environment for peer support. At each meetup, participants are encouraged to focus on their own health and share their life experiences living with diabetes with women who understand the unique challenges diabetes poses. The group will meet on the third Thursday of every month.
Balance and Gait Training for Fall Prevention will be held a 11 a.m. on Sept. 25, an interactive session about the risk factors of falling.
Ayurvedic and holistic medicine will be addressed at 7 p.m. on Sept. 26. Ayurvedic medicine utilizes diet, detoxification and purification techniques, herbal and mineral remedies, yoga, breathing exercises, meditation and massage therapy as holistic healing methods. An Ayurvedic diet consists primarily of whole or minimally processed foods and includes guidelines for how to eat to boost health, prevent or manage disease and maintain wellness.
