A 10-year-old Princeton girl was the target of an attempted luring as she was walking home from a friend’s house on Prospect Avenue around 5 p.m. on Sept. 5, according to the Princeton Police Department.
The girl told police that she saw a red sedan or coupe, which she described as a “Mazda-like car” with a “stock-looking spoiler” on the trunk, traveling south on Riverside Drive East which then made a U-turn and began traveling north on Riverside Drive East.
The car turned left onto Prospect Avenue and stopped near the girl, police said. The driver asked her whether she was okay and whether she needed a ride. She told the driver that she was fine and did not need any help.
When the driver asked her where she was going, she replied that she was going home and continued to walk on Prospect Avenue, police said. At that point, the driver made a U-turn and drove east on Prospect Avenue. He turned right onto Riverside Drive East, traveling in a southerly direction.
The driver was described as a white man, about 40 to 50 years old, with thinning light brown hair, police said. He was wearing a yellow shirt.
The Princeton Police Department has added additional patrols in the area as a result of the incident, which remains under investigation. Anyone with information should call Princeton police Detective Robert Allie at 609-921-2100, ext. 2123, or call the confidential tip line at 609-688-2049.
