A man who was wanted for allegedly committing a murder in Essex County was arrested on Sept. 7 at an undisclosed medical facility in Princeton where he was a patient, authorities said.
Darren Black, 37, of East Orange, was charged with murder and related offenses in the Aug. 17 shooting death of Shafeqah Cooper, in Orange, the town where she lived.
Agents from the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office and the FBI picked up Black without incident at the medical facility, which was not disclosed for privacy reasons, the prosecutor’s office said on Sept. 18.
Black was taken to the Essex County Correctional Facility, said Katherine Carter, a spokeswoman for the prosecutor’s office.
Cooper was shot an undisclosed number of times in Orange on Aug. 17 and her body was found by a motorist later that morning in Irvington, the prosecutor’s office has said. Authorities have not disclosed a motive for her slaying.
