Councilwoman May withdraws from Eatontown mayoral race

Patti May, a Democratic candidate, has announced her withdrawal from the upcoming mayoral race in Eatontown on Nov. 6.

“I want to be able to give the people of Eatontown 100 percent and, with the extra responsibilities that would come with being the mayor, I cannot make that commitment at this time in my life. I look forward to not only continuing to serve on the council, but also to getting two more democrats elected to council. We value Eatontown as a family-friendly community and want to promote smart, stable development,” May said in a statement.

May is currently serving her first three-year term on the Borough Council. This is May’s first year as Council President. May also serves as Fire Commissioner and liaison to the fire department, first aid squad, and fire prevention bureau, according to a press release.

Running for Borough Council on the Democratic ticket are Jasmine Story and Lisa Murphy.

The Eatontown Council is currently made up of four Democrats and two Independents with a Republican mayor.
