East Brunswick man suffers fatal injuries during collision in North Brunswick

NORTH BRUNSWICK – At approximately 12:12 a.m. on Sept. 22, patrol units were dispatched to Route 1 north and Fashion Plaza Drive for a reported motor vehicle collision.

Upon arrival, units discovered a serious crash involving two vehicles. The northbound side of the highway was closed, and fire and EMS units went to work to free and treat the occupants of both vehicles. Due to the serious nature, traffic investigators from the North Brunswick Police Department were also summoned to the scene, according to information provided by North Brunswick Police Capt. Brian Hoiberg.

Early investigation reveals that the driver of a 2007 BMW X3 traveling Route 1 south allegedly disregarded the red traffic signal, entered the intersection, and struck the second vehicle, a 2016 Chevy Malibu, on the driver’s side of that vehicle, according to the statement. That vehicle was exiting the Walmart shopping center.

The driver of the Chevy Malibu died on scene. He has been identified as Wen-Fu Lin, 80, of East Brunswick. The remaining involved occupants were transported to area hospitals with non-life threatening injuries, according to the statement.
