Freehold Township stocks up on supplies to battle winter storms

FREEHOLD TOWNSHIP – Municipal officials planning for the winter weather have authorized a contract for the purchase of sodium chloride (rock salt). The contract is for an amount not to exceed $375,000.

On Sept. 11, Township Committee members passed a resolution authorizing a contract with Chemical Equipment Labs of DE, Inc., Newtown Square, Pa., for the purchase of rock salt. The purchase was made by Freehold Township through the Monmouth County Cooperative Pricing System.

According to the resolution, the rock salt will cost $57.17 per ton. The amount of rock salt to be purchased is not to exceed $375,000, allowing for a maximum of 6,559 tons of rock salt to be purchased.

In other business, the committee authorized a contract with Foley Inc., Piscataway, for the purchase of two message boards from Wanco. The boards provide messages for roads, highways and public events. The purchase was also made through the Monmouth County Cooperative Pricing System. Each message board will cost $16,570, for a total of $33,140.

Committee members also authorized a contract with Campus Coordinates, LLC, for T-shirts, jackets and various items for Freehold Township departments.

Additionally, the committee authorized a shared services agreement with Wall Township for health services. According to a resolution, Freehold Township will provide health services to Wall Township under the agreement between the two municipalities.

Committee members also authorized a shared services agreement with the Monmouth County Board of Health for a health improvement coalition coordinator. Under the agreement, Freehold Township will provide a licensed health educator to coordinate and manage a community health partnership known as the Health Improvement Coalition of Monmouth County (HICMC), according to a resolution.

Concurrent with the agreement with the Monmouth County Board of Health, the committee authorized a shared services agreement with Monmouth Regional Health Commission No. 1 for a health improvement coalition coordinator. As with the Monmouth County Board of Health, Freehold Township will continue to manage HICMC and provide a licensed health educator, according to the resolution.
